If you happen to walk past Vivamusic Hub, Singapore last evening, you would have heard violin, guitars and people singing.
If you thought you heard some folksy music, you're quite right. Three of the Riverdance musicians were in the Vivamusic Hub, Singapore for a short showcase on Celtic music. Morgan Crowley, Chris Kelly and Mairin Fahy did a few numbers for the little yet attentive crowd.
Mairin Fahy is the fiddle player of the ensemble. She is an all Ireland champion fiddle player. Mairin has won All-Ireland titles in singing and dancing ever since she was a little girl. She was also featured alongside with Dolores O'Riordan in the Harrison Ford/Brad Pitt movie, The Devil's Own.
Morgan Crowley, is the lead singer for Riverdance -The Show. He has his own solo album out and the response is overwhelming. His manly yet harmonious voice contradicts his appearance. Morgan sang three numbers in its traditional Irish way.
Chris Kelly is one versatile guitarist. He played the guitar like any rock guitarist would. But the difference is, he adapted well with the Irish tunes. He didn't just played along with the fiddle, in fact his sounds stood out like a sore thumb during the pieces.
These three talented musicians played well at the Riverdance as well as the short performance at the Hub. Mairin is not only good at the fiddle, she is also one helluva singer!
They ended their short performance shortly after 7pm. They mingled around with the audience for a bit and answering to their queries. they obliged to signing autographs to the odd fans who brought their CDs along to the showcase. A light and informative showcase it was.
