Held on the 23rd of September, Audiosports organised a DJ workshop with Andrew Chow at the Vivamusic Hub for aspiring talents who want to know more about the techniques.
The first of three sessions began a llittle after 4.30pm, admist a relative number of curious onlookers on a Saturday afternoon. Besides promoting the full range of DJ equipment available at the Groovezone corner in the Hub, the host of the workshop also introduced the different levels of learning which you can achieve at Audiosports' full DJ course with chief trainer Andrew Chow.
Through the 45-minute session, Andrew demonstrated scratch mixing, battlebreaks, old skool and new skool sounds, and the different scratch techniques. The audience also poised some questions to Andrew, answering their doubts. But it all boils down to 'getting the roots and fundamentals' about spinning, as Andrew maintains. He also emphasised a lot has to do with actual techniques besides the amount of practice which goes into the life of a DJ.
Find out more about the different styles of spinning, Andrew's favourite genres, the kinds of courses available at Audiosports plus the highlights of learning from them in Vivamusic's exclusive video coverage, shown in its raw state in order to capture the mood and feel of the workshop.
The second and third workshops were held on the 7th and 21st of October respectively, the last one beginning rather late due to the lack of punctuality. This time round, trick mixing, body tricks, promotional announcements and the different types of DJ courses filled the shorter 20-minute session, coupled with a showcase of Andrew's hip-hop DJ style.
The three sessions proved to be extremely insightful, especially with a very experienced maestro at the decks. Although it could have done with a better crowd subsequently, the workshops were interesting nonetheless.
